A Simple Cure For Anxiety And Depression

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Saleem Rana Our innate desire is to be happy, and when we move away from it, we experience fear. This fear is actually millions of years old, for it arises from the biological programming of our species. While we may not have to contend with a sabre-toothed tiger on any given day, we still use those very reactions to deal with events looming ahead. We think, Will I be fired for making that mistake at work? or Will I be able to meet the mortgage after I fix the car? or Will my health continue to decline? or Will my relationship fall apart after that argument we just fell into? Running questions with this type of urgency and helplessness trains our brains to prepare now for future danger by loading our bodies up with the stress hormone cortisol. Anxiety is our anticipation of a dangerous future. We imagine having even less of the little that we have today. This anxiety does not help us in any way to meet the future any better. In fact, it weakens and exhausts us. We usually worry most about things that we can’t even control. Worrying about your dental visit, for example, will not make the visit better. Anxiety, in fact, is a silent killer. It is enervating, and it drains you of purpose and hope, faith and initiative. It fogs up your thinking. And it makes the body susceptible to illness. When anxiety–a fear of an event in the future–is high enough then you feel a deep sense of helplessness. This, in turn, translates into depression. You even begin to view the past as disappointing. Caught between a miserable past and a frightening future you create a pattern of emotions that can lead to a variety of mood disorders, including manic-depression. How do we escape from this vicious cycle? Here is what I did 20 years ago and I have never since suffered from any serious mood disorder. I started to cultivate my awareness of my mood swings–from elation to black despair. I did this by basically watching myself when I was manic, and watching myself when I was depressed, and watching what I did to turn on these states. For example to get depressed, I used my love of literature to focus on dark, morbid, and unhappy stories about life. And to get elated, I would talk a lot, move very quickly, and do things in a dramatic way. An interesting thing happened when I made my unconscious behavior conscious. I could not take my mood shifts seriously. This is what I learned from that experience: when you are able to observe yourself over the course of a few weeks, you develop a curious detachment. A paradoxical situation developed for me: I found it difficult to stay anxious and depressed when I was observing myself feeling anxious and depressed. Ultimately, anxiety and depression are culturally-induced patterns of thinking that can be overcome through a deliberate cultivation of awareness. When you become your own observer, you weed out the unconscious habits that afflict you. Despite the billions of dollars spent to heal anxiety and depression, and all the mood disorders and behavioral anomalies that arise from them, the cure is simple, quick, and free. Loving Your Spouse Unconditionally in Today’s Bitter World

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Nichelle Parsons There is so much pain and suffering in this world today and I dont feel like there is enough talking about what it is like to be happily married. Sometimes I am in awe about how unusual it is in this world to see a truly happy married couple. No nagging, no bullsh*t, no rage, no getting even, no ulterior motivesjust unconditional love. Now there is an interesting concept. Unconditional love. What is it? Well, the dictionary describes it as, without conditions or limitations; absolute. The bible describes unconditional as the purest of all loves. It is the love that God has for us and it is that love that allowed our sins to be forgiven 2000 years ago on a wooden cross on Calvary. Unconditional love is usually the kind of love parents share with their children. There are the obvious exceptions but overall, parents love their kids no matter what and without any conditions. You love them when they are good and even when they are bad. You would give them the world if you could and dont expect anything in return. That is unconditional love. But where is the unconditional love in marriage. Two people have pledged their life to one another and yet, there doesnt seem to be any hint of unconditional love anywhere. There is a lot of he hurt me so Ill hurt him back (or vice versa), jealousy, sex is a chore, I am too tired, he just doesnt look like the man I married, she doesnt let me do the things I would like to do, etc. Where is the love? Where is the communication of unconditional love??? Nick and I have been married for one year and seven months. I can honestly say that we love each other unconditionally. Now before you start spouting the whole newlywed thing, just listen to what I have to say. Nick and I have been married for 19 months BUT we have truly known each other since we were born. We are soul mates and that means that our souls have known each other since before we were born. As soul mates, we love each other without condition, restriction and with no ulterior motives. I love Nick more than I love myself and I would give up my life to save his (and he would do the same). That is the true test of love, according to God. Jesus told His disciples that there is no greater love than to give up his life for his friends. And there is no greater friend here on Earth than my husband. I know by now that you are asking yourself, is this woman for real? Does she have some sort of perfect life? Actually my life is quite the opposite from perfection. I am, however, happily married to my soul mate and living the best life I can. Wanna know some secrets to our unconditional love? Secret #1: No matter what happens, always ALWAYS communicate with each other. Talk to each other. Listen to what your partner is really saying. Most all of lifes misunderstandings can be cleared up by just talking about it right away. It is truly as simple as that. Secret #2: I know this again sounds pretty simple but it works. Nick and I tell each other we love each other several times a day. We never know when something horrible could happen (God forbid) and that person could be gone forever. There is never too much when saying how much you love them. Secret #3: Put that person first before anything else. No matter what your friends and family may tell you, it is crucial to always uplift your spouse above all others. They need to know that they are the most important person in your eyes and vice versa. In the land of love, it is you two against the world and that is the truth. You are in a marriage with this person and you have vowed to love, honor and cherish. That means that you honor your spouse by placing them #1 in your eyes. Secret #4: Life is going to throw you curve balls. The key is not to blame each other but to learn how to work together to blast those curve balls out of the park. Working together as a team (and not individuals) enables you both to work through the rough times victoriously. I know that it is possible to love your spouse unconditionally. Give it a try and be open to the possibilities. Nichelle Parsons is a happily married woman who resides in Toronto, Ontario. Student Loans, the Benefits and the Pitfalls

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tyson_J_Stevenson]Tyson J Stevenson Student loans are provided to students to help them in paying tuition fees. Interest rates are significantly lower for student loans than other loans, and often issued by the government. In some cases, a student loan is the single means by which a person will be able to pay for college education. Therefore, it’s easy to realize the importance of getting a decent & competitive student loan. If you are planning for advanced studies or to go to college, and want to apply for a student loan, you must do a bit of research work. There are some guidelines and pointers you should always keep in mind. Some points are discussed here. With these points in your mind you can choose a better loan and assure your application for approval. 1. When you are going to apply for a loan you should bring all the necessary documents with you, containing information about your financial status. In some cases financial status of your parents and income proof can play an important role in decisions regarding your student loan. Lenders will surely ask for these documents if you are still living with your parent. 2. For better loan options you can even contact your high schools financial aid office. The staff of the financial aid office are specially trained to help you in deciding on the best loan options. Collect information from there and then decide which will best suit you. 3. Before applying for a loan you must know your tuition fee per semester or per year, expenditure on books and other expenses. Establish a budget for yourself. Do not underestimate this, it’s crucial to having an enjoyable experience. Being “broke” all the time makes for a long year! 4. If you are planning to live in a campus provided by the institution, you must know about the dorm fees and charges for each semester. In most of cases you can even add campus living charges in your request for your loan. Many students use student loans to pay their off campus expenses as well. While funding your other expenses you should keep in mind the rules and regulations of student loans. 5. If you are an honors scholar you should apply for a scholarship program before applying for a student loan. It will make your student life easy. 6. While looking for a student loan you should honestly assess your income sources during your school life and after school. Many students end up their school life buried in debts provided by loan programs. Hence, be sure that what will you actually need in student loan financing, by doing so you will be in a fine position in coming life. While calculating your available funds, do not forget to consider any financial contribution from your parents for your education. If you are qualified for any educational grant or scholarship program, it will be a plus for you. In this case you should reduce your request for student loan to keep your financial position sound in student life and after that. By following these guidelines, it will be easy for you to choose a better student loan and be in a position to refund the loan after your education. The #1 Way To Kill A Phone Interview

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Melanie Szlucha Typically the topic of verbal crutches is something that people are coached on when they are improving their group presentation skills. Verbal crutches are those little connector words that all of us use from time to time. These are the ums, ahs, and even in the case of one candidate I interviewedfabulous, that we unconsciously toss in while were thinking about the next sentence. Let me tell youthis will KILL and I meanRUIN your chances for a follow up interview, especially if your first interview is a phone interview. As the interviewer on a phone interview, I have nothing else to focus on other than the sound of your voice. If that sound is constantly interrupted by an umm, or a ya know, Im really going to notice it. If the job Im considering hiring you for has a lot of phone work involved, Im not going to subject the person on the other end of the phone to your poor verbal abilities. At this point, I dont care if you are the most qualified person on paperyoure out of the running because your message is being lost in a sea of these verbal crutches. Its a very silly way to get eliminated. Heres how you clean up your act. First, you need to either ask your friends very seriously and honestly if you are a verbal crutch offender. Explain to them how important this is in your job search, and unless they want to hear you whine for an additional six months about not finding a new jobthey should help you. Verbal crutches are bad habits that can become more apparent when youre in stressful situations like job interviews, but are probably apparent when your guard is down like when youre hanging out with friends. They dont just appear when you pick up the phone for an interview. Your other option is to record yourself while you practice for the interview. This can be trickier because you will of course know that youre taping and will make more of an effort to clean up your act, but it could work. Another option is to just make a conscious effort throughout the day to listen to what you are really saying. Too many times I find that if Im not completely engaged in what Im saying and am not truly in the moment that I will start umming and ahhing as my brain searches for the next coherent thought. When I focus on the message Im trying to convey, my speech patterns clean up immediately and Im back on track. I sound more professional and people have a tendency to not tune me out because theyre tired of trying to sort out the wheat from the umm and ahh chaff. So bottom line, if this could be a problem for youfix it NOW! Make an effort everytime you say something during the day to really listen to what you are sayingdont tune out! If you want the interviewer to pay attention to youyou need to pay attention to you. For some people, this will be a hard habit to break, but it is well worth the effort, I guarantee it. Red Inc. Why Home owners are looking for Unsecured Loans

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kate_Ross]Kate Ross Homeowners, usually customers of secured loans, realized that the risk of repossession can exceed the benefits of secured loans and thus have decided to opt for unsecured loans. This is due to the fact that the benefits of secured loans can also be obtained by homeowners when applying for unsecured loans. Unsecured Loans are not that Risky Lenders that deal with unsecured loans do not have the right to collect money directly from the enforced sell of a borrowers asset. However the lender still holds the ability to pursue legal actions against the borrower in order to recover his money. That being said, applicants must understand that unsecured loans do not offer the possibility to be left unpaid. The sum offered in unsecured loans is lower compared to the amount of money you can get from secured loans. Usually this kind of loans is used for going on vacation, buying furniture, paying off bills and other debts, etc. In order to get an unsecured personal loan, applicant ought to have a good credit history. This is due to the fact that there is a high risk involved in this kind of transactions for the lender and since there is no asset guaranteeing the loan. The borrowers personal credit will be the guarantee. What if I have Bad Credit If someone with bad credit wants to apply for an unsecured loan, he should get help from a mediator that will be able to assist in the filling of the application and the prior correction of some credit problems that are drawbacks at the time of applying. Repayment can take between 1 and 25 years, depending on the loan amount. You need to shop around and see what your options are. Usually applicants benefit from certain flexibility on the system of repayment, you should choose the scheme that best suits your needs and that which wont turn into an unbearable burden in the future. When applying for any kind of loan, and particularly for unsecured loans, you should pay special attention to the APR. Since the interest rate is usually higher in unsecured loans, you should compare what the lenders have to offer and try to find the lender that offers the lowest rate. Where to search You must research till you can find a good deal. The best alternative is to use the resources that internet provides. Youll find many online companies offering access to a wide variety of lenders dealing with unsecured loans. Concentrate on the APR, costs and fees to see if the loans are too expensive or not and watch the repayment plan and monthly installments to see if the loan suits your needs. Shrimp By The Basket

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Bob Alexander Not everyone has the chance to catch their own shrimp. I caught mine by mistake but I kept them anyway. My son and I were fishing on the old Pensacola Bay Fishing Bridge at Pensacola, Florida. When the old concrete bridge that crossed the bay was replaced by a new and modern structure three miles long, the city made the old one into a recreational fishing bridge. I understand that one of the hurricanes of the past few years did her in and there’s nothing left now. It’s sad because “the bridge” was my favorite night fishing spot of the area, as it was for hundreds if not thousands of other fishermen. Almost any warm evening, especially in summer, fishermen of both sexes would be lined up on the railing of the bridge with their lines cast as far out into Pensacola Bay as possible. Every once in a while someone’s rod would jerk; the angler would pull back and set the hook; then pull in everything from mullet to flounder. Just about any fish was possible from that bridge. Each time I fished at the bridge, there was a festive mood with all that were fishing. Entire families were there as well as the lone fishermen huddle over a cup of coffee late in the evening. Fishing rods were lined up like soldiers against the concrete railing. Everyone had his very own lawn chair, blankets or sleeping bag. Charcoal grills were set up and the aroma of hamburgers would be swept along by the ocean breeze from one end of the structure to the other. From time to time someone would come by selling bait or cold drinks. It was as if every night was a holiday! Frankly, I never caught many fish from that old bridge, but I had a lot of fun trying. One particular evening in early July around midnight, we’d gotten bored with the lack of activity from our rods and reels, so we cut up one of the smaller fish into two pieces to be used for bait. We’d brought along two crab traps, so we baited them with the fish and lowered them over the side of the bridge until they touched bottom. Then we let nature take its course. It was time to catch some Blue Crabs for dinner the next evening! A half hour later we pulled up one of the traps to see if we had any crabs. There wasn’t even one! There were however five large shrimp in the basket. We lost one when it fell out of the trap on the way up to the top of the bridge. We scooped the other four up and put them in our bait bucket for later use. The second trap changed our minds about using the shrimp for bait when we pulled it up. We had an even dozen large shrimp in this basket. That settled it; we had to keep fishing for shrimp until we had enough for a meal! There were very few small shrimp in the baskets; most of them were large or jumbo; just the kind to cook on a charcoal grill! The next couple of hauls were very poor, only one shrimp between the two baskets. We checked our bait and dropped the traps into the water about 15 feet below. While we were waiting for the shrimp to come to the traps, we continued to fish with our rods and reels. My son and I each caught a nice flounder. By the time we put them in the cooler; it was time to check the crab traps again. This time there were about twenty each in our baskets. After seeing that we were catching shrimp, folks up and down the bridge had dug out their crab traps and were having good success also! I have no idea why the shrimp were so plentiful under that bridge that night. I’ve caught a lot of crabs there but that was the only time the shrimp were that plentiful. We lost a lot of shrimp due to them falling out of the basket as we hauled them up, but we finished the night with about 8 pounds of shrimp! Folks have told me that the city is going to build another fishing structure to replace the old bridge in Pensacola. I hope they do, but it won’t be the same. I know you can’t live in the past but if I could, I would stake my claim on a spot about two hundred yards from the southern shore on that old bay bridge and throw out my traps.
