Landscape Gardening - Planning Your Project

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Rose Reynolds Landscaping is an art. It is something that takes some time to do, some effort, and some patience. Landscaping, if done properly, will be a masterpiece. Reasons behind landscaping Some of the objectives of landscaping include the establishment of a visual harmony between the house and its surroundings, the reduction of maintenance time and costs to a workable and practical level, and the enhancement of your place, both for pleasure and usage. Many people waste so much money on landscaping because of poor planning or no planning at all. Things to do when planning your project For your project to be beautiful, practical, and meaningful, you must think how the space is usually used and what will maximize your stay there by picturing the things that you will put in it. It is important for you to look at the designs done before and learn from their innovation and mistakes as well. You must have a good idea of the materials that are easily obtainable and will not cause you problems that can radically affect your design concept. Taking time to look at the ecology of your site is also important since this is one of the main factors that have an impact on your planned design. Make a list of the materials and tools you will need to redesign your backyard. Most importantly, you need to list the plants that you wish to place in the area. Do not forget to include a list of plants that you can substitute just in case there are some you can not get hold of. Set up a schedule for the construction process and outline the process according to priority. Creating a schedule helps you estimate the time the landscaping process will consume. Most landscaping projects can be done in a week or two. Other things that you need to consider when landscaping are:A backyard that has a well-planned drainage system can prevent those “wet areas%u201D. The composition and quality of the soil affects the types of greenery that you can plant in your backyard. Check which parts of the house and yard have appropriate sunlight. This also determines where you can place furniture and plants. Look at the yard from the inside of the your house when designing it. You can really appreciate the beauty of your yard from inside your home. Ask yourself: How big is the planting area? Each part of the house should be designed based on who uses that area the most, make the design functional for the whole family. You may want to use a theme on your backyard. These may involve a country, romantic or tropical theme or others. Be creative and start landscaping your home now! Controlling and Getting Rid of Student Debt

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Verena_Veneeva]Verena Veneeva Most of the students nowadays fear debt (Education Guardian, 2006). However, debt is not necessarily a bad thing, if you can control it. Learning how to control it early on pays dividends for the rest of your life, as the likelihood is, you will owe some money to someone until retirement, be it a mortgage, loans or even leveraging a business. Simple corporate finance rule of thumb states that individuals and businesses can benefit from a correct ratio of debt in their portfolio (Brealey et al., 2003, p. 532). The first rule of controlling your debt is not to spend too much. Students have a lot of different discounts available to them, so you need to get a student card as soon as you join the academic institution to be eligible for the discounts. In turn this means that your purchasing power increases as you buy the same basket of goods for less. For example, your Debt Reduction Team offers a wide range of discounts that are available not only to you but also to your friends and family (SDRT, 2002). Your two biggest expenditures (except for alcohol) are likely to be accommodation costs and books. It is advisable to stay in university halls as long as it is possible. Sometimes applying early on and negotiating will allow you to secure a place in the second and third academic years. In Britain books are extremely expensive, so do not rush to buy everything on the reading list. The best way to save on books is to use the library and it is always worth signing up to libraries outside of your university which will give you access to books when they are not available in your own library. Also, if you are living in halls, students in the year above you are likely to have the books that you require. If you do want to buy books, check university book sales or the internet for second-hand bargains. However, if you do have to buy a brand new book, be very careful with it and do not break the back or loose the receipt, as this will allow you to refund it (usually within 10 days) if you decide that the book is not for you. Other ways that you can save money are: Shop for food with friends buying in bulk can save money and means that you can take advantage of the ‘buy one get one free’ offers (NatWest, 2006) Use your NUS or ISIC card and also look in your Student’s Union for a number of one-off offers that are available (NatWest, 2006) Before buying goods ask fellow students if they know where to get them cheaper Considering that you have minimised your spending, the methods of efficient borrowing will be discussed below. New students usually borrow from the Student Loan Company (SLC) to fund their fees. This company will allow you to borrow up to 3,000 per year and the debt will need to be paid back once your income is 15,000 or more per annum (City University, 2006). The SLCs interest on the loan only increases in line with inflation (retail price index), therefore you will only pay what you have borrowed, plus inflation. The repayments will be linked to your income at 9% (DFES, 2006, p. 8). SLC loans are primarily used to pay tuition fees, but of course, you will also need some spending money. The majority of students will open a credit-card account. However, what you need to be aware of is that a credit cards interest is a lot higher then those charged for a loan. Therefore, there are other sources of finance that you can try first, such as Student Accounts that are provided by most of the high-street banks. Student accounts will allow you to borrow at 0% interest (up to a certain amount) during your university years and 1-3 years afterwards. Most of the high-street banks compete to get students as their customers, so make sure you check all of the available offers before settling for an account. However, if alternative resources have run out then opening a credit card might be the only option left. In this case you should be looking for a credit card with 0% on purchases. Most of the credit cards will have a shorter time-frame on 0% purchases than on balance transfers, so you need to find a credit card that will give the maximum time on free purchases. Zero per cent on purchases means that the cardholder pays no interest on anything that they purchase with the credit card for a certain period of time and after that timeframe expires, a standard rate of interest is incurred on the balance (RBS, 2006). The best deals on credit cards can be found on the internet. There are two things that you can do once you reach the end of the 0% period: a) transfer the debt to a new credit card provider; or b) pay off the debt. Otherwise the debt will start rising out of control. In the first scenario there are a few things to watch out for. First of all, when you transfer the balance the amount of 0% purchases will go down. For example, if a new credit card offers a 2,500 limit and 2,000 is transferred from the original credit card, then only 500 is left for purchases. Secondly, there will be a fee for transferral, which ranges from 2% to 6%, which needs to be taken into consideration when choosing the best deal. Thirdly, if the credit card offers a 2,500 limit and 2,500 is transferred, there will be no money left to spend, which will force you to open another credit card. Furthermore, most of the credit cards will have a certain cash withdrawal limit, which is much lower then the credit limit offered. You should be aware of that limit, and bear in mind that you will incur credit card charges every time money is withdrawn. So, the best thing to do is to have a plan of how to pay some of the spending off whilst 0% on transfers and purchases is still available. There are a lot of different ways of earning money whilst at university, which will not interfere with the lecture attendance. Most universities and some agencies will allow a student to work around their timetable, furthermore there are a large number of companies on the internet that will allow you to work from home at your own pace. For example, a student once told me that the best way to earn money while at university is to look outside of university jobs. In her case, she did bar work at the club during semester time and temped full-time for an agency during summers doing administration work. On completion of university not only did she have a positive account balance, but also had good working experience to display on her CV. Considering that you have some money coming in and 0% on purchases is available to you, you can put this income into a savings account (cash ISAs is one of the best ways of saving, while still allowing you to withdraw at any time). Therefore, your income is earning you money, but the credit card is not charging interest. Once the credit card has to be paid off, the required amount is withdrawn from the savings account and the credit-card bill is nullified. However, what can you do when there is no income coming in? Unfortunately, you will need to rely on debt. As has been explained previously, you will need to make sure that you transfer credit balances before interest payments are incurred. However, there will come a time when you will run out of money available to you and this will require you to have some income coming in. As stated before, there are a lot of different ways of earning income whilst at university. Furthermore, bear in mind that most future employers will look favourably on previous job experience, even if it is not related to the job that you are applying for. Getting rid of debt on completion of university is also not as difficult as its made out to be, if you can apply the correct discipline. The first thing that needs to be done is to understand exactly how much money is owed (this can include credit cards, loans and store cards). Secondly, debts need to be put in order of priority. For example, if the credit cards are incurring 14% interest, whilst 4% is charged on your loan, then paying off the credit cards should take priority. If you do not have the income to pay off all of the credit cards straight away there are a number of things that can be done: a) transferring the balance to a 0% credit card; b) speaking to your bank and asking them for terms to consolidate your credit cards (more then one quote should be obtained) c) calling other debt consolidation companies and seeing what they can offer (Clear Start, 2006). Similar stages can be applied to other debts, in order of priority. If steady income is available (which is higher than the amount spent per month) then debt is not necessarily a bad thing. If spending is controlled, then you can pay off outstanding debt, and benefit from alternative debt available. For example, if you spend against your credit card at 0% per year, then your outgoings can be put against the credit card, but income can be put into a savings account allowing those savings to be used to pay the card off at the end of the free period, so retaining the interest. Some students think that they can default on a student loan. Defaulting on a student loan is very difficult. The loan will be automatically written off by the government after 25 years, if not paid (DFES, 2006). Although the above work outlines different ways of maintaining and controlling debts, it should be noted that bad debts and an inability to pay may be registered with credit reference agencies, which in turn will decrease your ability to obtain a mortgage in the future (Dwelley, 2006). Therefore, it is important to control your finances at all stages: during university and afterwards. What Dr. Atkins Should Have Told You (Part 2)

By Dave Westin The diet I recommend for great weight loss that is accompanied by working out is low carbohydrate, high protien and healthy oils. The days of just eating meat and cheese were a quick and unhealthy idea for weight loss, this is why. Red meat and cheese have a lot of saturated fat and cholesteral. This is what I call “heart stoppers”. You will lose weight, though. The reason you lose weight, even with bad fats, is you put your body into a state of ketosis. This state is where your body looks for carbs and sugars to burn first. When it doesn’t find them it will attack your fat in deperation causing quick fat burn. The problem is you are only feeding you body atery clogging food. Good fats like omega 3 and monounsaturate fats will give your body the energy it needs and not clog up your ateries. These good fats are found in fish, nuts, and olive oils. I list them because they are equally low in carbs. This will cause your body to burn fat. The next type of food you need is the high protiens to feed your growing muscles. Great high protein meals include tuna, chicken, nuts and eggs. I also choose to list these foods specifically because they are low in fat and huge in protien. Now, can most of us only eat these foods? The answer is no. The key is to include them with some of your favorite low carb foods. They will help fill the gaps that some low carb foods don’t fill. You have to eat the cheese and red meat if you want it. Unhappy people will relapse. Its almost a fact. It has to be fun and rewarding. Set a day of the week where you have some ice cream. Grab a slice of pizza. The key is to stay on track and stay happy. Take a friend to the gym. Research new low carb recipies. Get into it! The most important thing is that you slightly alter your schedule and move on with your activities. If you do this for a month, you will want to keep doing it. It is a healthy body machine. Don’t forget to eat vegitables and take a daily vitamin. We can’t neglegt the basics no matter what kind of diet we are on. Saving Water

By Lance Winslow There are things that all of can do, for instance pay attention to the watering of the lawns. Over watering does not help the lawn, most roots only go down three to four inches, any more watering is simply wasted. Consumer Reports has some great suggestions on how you can cut down on your water usage. This is a good place to start. Please implement one of these items every week over the next year, make it a goal; http://www.consumerreports.org/main/detailv2.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=154785&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=21135 I believe that efficiency is the key. Having been a former marathon runner, I believe in conserving energy and water to reach the finish line. It is possible and there are many people who have worked on such issues. We are now firm believers that we are in the beginning of a Paradigm Shift with human water consumption. It is time we looked at the whole picture; think about it. http://www.rmi.org/sitepages/pid279.php There have been so many incredible accomplishments over the years through the various drought times by those entrusted in controlling this finite resource of fresh water. These new innovations and successes have come incrementally and still we as a public do not pay attention to our own responsibility of usage of this precious commodity. It is time we change our thinking in our use of water, explore new options and look closely at the current projects going on around our country like the desalination plant in Tampa and the SRP-Salt Water River Project in Phoenix and Arizona. In Johannesburg at World Summit in 2002, the main point was water, fresh clean water for the World. We are very concerned about the water here in the US. Recently at the Colorado State Fair the main concern was also water. Having traveled to every city in the United States I saw lake levels and river flows down in CO, UT. MT, WY. OR, CA, NM, TX, OK, WV, TN. GA, FL, SC, NC, PA, NJ, KY, ND, SD, KS, NE, MA, CT, RI, NC, SC and VA in my. We are not the only country on the Planet with such issues, actually we are much better off than most, but this is no reason for us to sit on our laurels. Water is everyone’s business, not just those who wash cars. We need to be working together to conserve and work on ways to be more efficient for the long run. Think about it, join us in conserving our water supplies and this valuable resource which gives us life. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Understanding Reiki Therapy

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Hector Milla Reiki healers are divided into three levels of therapy practice through attunements. The Reiki therapy teacher normally conducts a ceremony in which the teachers attach their hands in a proper position together with the symbol. The Three Levels The Reiki healers I usually learn the basic hand positions and the sacred symbol and they can perform the direct healing over the others. The Reiki II healers can teach the symbol of symbols and hand position in order to practice distance or absentee healing. The Reiki III healers can make a commitment on the outside universal power and further. The stage three teachers are the highest stage. The lower ranks call them as master teacher. Keep in mind that Reiki is not a type of religion, healers establish a five spiritual code attributes. Here are those principles: Just for today do not worry. Just for today do not be angry. Honor your parents, teachers, and all the elders. Learn how to earn your living honestly. Be kind to your neighbors and in every living thing. What are the risks in Reiki healing? Reiki therapy healing is about working on a positive force that will only works for good without violating the human will. A patient has the capability to block the energy flowing in his body, but he cannot be harmed in any way. Reiki is used for conjunctions with the Western medicine or homeopathy; the therapy does not ask the patients to change it religion or points of view in life. The therapy is only develop to help. The fact that Reiki healers regard themselves as an energy channels, they may feel a warm, tickly sensation in their hands during the therapy treatment. But the therapy do not cause any harm to the patient but the healers do not promise to heal their patient at a very short span of time. The End Times Are Now

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Robert Benjamin First let me explain what is meant by the end times. The ‘end times’ is a reference to the end of time remaining before the lord Jesus returns to remove the christians (his believers and followers) out of the world before the 7 year tribulation starts. Whenever normal every day life is threatened by something abnormal such as a massive earthquake, meteor shower, war, famine, or something else, there was always someone who thought or said ’surely this must be the end times!’, this type of thinking has happened from right after Christ died on the cross over 2000 years ago, until present day. These people surely did not read or study the bible, for if they had then they would of known that the end times could of not been here or had not even started, not until at least the year 1948. Once the year 1948 arrived, a great thing occurred that started what I call the ‘winding of the prophetic clock key’ this event was the creation of the independant state of ‘Israel’. Jesus talks about the end times in the bible and says that when the fig tree blossoms the end is near. Jesus used the descriptive analogy of a “fig tree” as pertaining to Israel, to instruct his disciples about how we could discern the timeliness of his return. Before 1948 there was no Independent state or nation of Israel. Another thing Jesus tells us will signal the closeness of the end times is that Jerusalem will be controlled by the Jews. Since 400 B.C. the city of Jerusalem has been controlled by one Gentile superpower after another. Here are a few of the dates when Jerusalem was under control of forces other than the Jews: A.D. 70, the Romans; 614 the Persians; 637 Caliph Omar; 1099 the Crusaders; 1187 Saladin; 1250 the Egyptian Mamelukes; 1517 the Turks; 1917 the British and others, then in 1967 during the 6th day war from June 5 to 10 of that year the jews captured Jerusalem. Jewish control of Jerusalem is one of the most important signs because of Jesus statement in Luke 21:24. The disciples had asked Him, “When are you going to return and what will be the sign ?” Jesus replied, “Jerusalem shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” What was the Savior saying? Simply that the Jews would be scattered throughout the world and the city of Jerusalem controlled by Gentile powers until the time of His return. All the various Gentile groupsthe Romans, the Persians, the Crusaders, the Egyptians, and others controlled Jerusalem from A.D. 70 until May 1967. Then, in June 1967 the Jews took control of Jerusalem for the first time in more than nineteen hundred years. The disciples also asked jesus, not only what the signs would be that signal the countdown to his return, but also what the signs of the actual end times would be. There are many signs we are told that we will see in the last days just before jesus returns, they include: ———————————— Earthquakes - Famines - Pestilences - Signs in space (sun, moons, stars, planets) Luke 21:11 (King James Version) - “And great earthquakes shall be in divers (various, several) places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” Famines:Since 1975 to present, there has never been a year, that there wasn’t a famine some place on the earth. ———————————— Earthquakes: Earthquakes are happening more frequently and are getting stronger. From 1920 - 1990 a period of 70 years, there was 10 Major Quakes. From 1990 - 2005 a period of 15 years, there was 15 Major Quakes. And this is only the major quakes, in the year 2000 there were 22,256 total earthquakes detected. In 2004 there was 31,199. of course most were not even hardly noticed or occurred in unpopulated areas, but there numbers are growing rapidly every year, as well as the major quakes. The United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Disaster Reduction Just reported that between 1950 to 1959 there was 20 Major calamities costing $38 Million (1989 Dollar Value), in 1990 to 1999 there was 82 Major calamities costing $535 Billion. ———————————— Pestilences: Since the 1980’s to present the number of new diseases that have formed is incredible. We now have SARS - AIDS - Herpes - West Nile - New Drug resistant TB - Mad Cow - New monkey pox virus with human-to-human transmission - and now the H5N1 (avian bird flu).Data shows that both the incidence and severity of outbreaks of multi-drug-resistant pathogens have experienced a sharp upturn within the past 10 years. For example, Salmonella infections have gone up 25-fold in some countries in Europe since 1998. Similar increases are reported for haemorrhagic E. coli 0157 food poisoning: between 2002 and 2005, the frequency of infection increased 10 - fold in England and Wales, and 100 - fold in Scotland. ———————————— Signs in the sun and space: The sun has been going wild, every 11 years or so we were told that the sun goes through cycles where it produces numerous solar flares or storms. This past cycle has been the strongest and strangest ever recorded since scientists and others have been studying solar activity, because even though the time for this solar phase should have passed. the sun is still producing massive flares and outbursts, and it’s getting worse. In fact the sun is getting brighter and hotter each recent year. This increase in warmth from the sun is warming the entire planet, and global warming is not longer just speculative, it’s a fact. The 14 hottest years ever recorded occurred after 1980. The U.S. Geological Survey says Antarica is warmer now then it has been anytime in the past 4000 years. Half the glacier ice in the European Alps has disapeared in this century. The following news reports were just released: ‘Warmest September Globally Since Beginning Of Reliable Instruments: The United States experienced its fourth warmest September on record, while global land surface temperatures were the warmest on record for the month, according to scientists at the NOAA National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C.’ and it’s not just the U.S. but reports are coming in from around the globe, here’s one from Australia: ‘Australia headed for hottest year on record - SYDNEY (AFP) Nov 14, 2005 - Australia is having its hottest year on record and experts blame global warming for the trend, the government weather bureau reported Monday. ———————————— Signs in society - peoples thinking and actions: 2 Timothy 3:1-4 (King James Version) - “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” These things are occurring every day and it seems everyplace, listen to peoples conversations, read the newspapers, watch tv shows, etc…. morals and putting others before ones-self are thinking that is almost gone. Sinful thoughts, and sexual perversion is becoming a common way of life. ———————————— Preachers will not preach the biblical truth, and many will seek false and evil religions: 1 Timothy 4:1 - “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” Churches and sermons have become watered-down to please church members. Many Pastors don’t preach sermons anymore on the horrors of hell and the effects of sin. They have begun preaching about an all loving god, that loves everyone. This is true he does, but he is also a holy god, that cannot tolerate sin. And if someone lives a life of sin, they will be cast into hell. If you accept Jesus Christ as lord and saviour, the bible says you must also repent, a dictionary explanation for ‘repent’ says: ‘To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one’s mind regarding it’, so you cannot just ask for salvation, then live your old life, the bible clearly tells us that, read this carefuly, it’s right from the bible: 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” Some Pastors are now even saying that Jesus Christ is not the only way to Heaven. We have removed the biblical truth and facts and have replaced it with what people want to hear, so they can continue their ways of living a life of sin. ———————————— Wars and rumors of wars: The 20th century has been known as the century of warfare. We have had the big ones of course like World War 1, and World War 2, and the cold war (the ultimate era of ‘rumors of war’), we also had the vietnam war, korean war, and literally hundreds of other battles, including the gulf wars and other middle east conflicts to the present day rumors of possible war with Iran and North Korea over their nuclear programs. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: Ethnic unrest and tribal warfare has killed millions in this generation alone, and it’s getting worse. ———————————— Massive Hurricanes and freak storms: Does the bible mention Hurricanes when it tells of signs of the Lords return ? It sure does, Jesus tells the disciples in Luke 21:25: “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.” See them last 6 words: ‘the sea and the waves roaring’, the exact effects of hurricanes. 2004 was said to have been the costliest hurricane season on record, that was true until the 2005 hurricance season. At the end of Oct 2005, Beta, the 26th named storm of a record Atlantic hurricane season, made landfall near La Barra, Nicaragua. And now on Fri, Dec 30 2005 we have this NEWS - Tropical Storm Zeta drifts across the Atlantic. The 27th named storm of a record-breaking hurricane season, Zeta had top sustained winds near 50 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Forecasters said Zeta was not expected to become a hurricane or threaten land. This Atlantic hurricane season has seen more named tropical storms and hurricanes than at any point since record-keeping began in 1851. Here in Northeast Pennsylvania, from November 6-12, we were struck with multiple severe thunderstorms and a tornado watch. This wouldn’t be anything abnormal if it was summer, but this is November and we had not only multiple severe thunderstorms but a tornado watch and then a warning. According to local tv weathermen, we have never had as many severe thunderstorms and a tornado warning in this area so late in the year since record keeping began. ———————————— I could go on and on, but this article would be to large for what I wanted. The facts are plain and simple folks, according to what jesus and the bible says, the signs of the end times are happening right now. There are some folks that say ‘oh it says in the bible that the city of Damacus in Syria will be destroyed’ and this hasn’t happened yet, or something else hasn’t happened yet. yes, that is very true but the signs that have happened or are occurring are the ones that the bible says will signal the return of Jesus, the other signs may occur during the great tribulation after his return. So what does it all mean, ‘The time of Jesus Christ’s return is here !’, I believe the countdown began in 1967 when the Jews took control of Jerusalem. . Jesus told his disciples that the Generation that sees these things, ‘The creation of israel as a nation, and most importantly ‘Jerusalem under jewish control (1967) “This generation will not pass away (die)”, before he (Jesus) Returns. So how long is a generation in the bible ? bible scholars used to say a generation is 40 years. So if the countdown to the ‘end times’ began in 1967 when the Jews re-took control of Jersualem, Christ may return (rapture of believers) before Dec 31, 2007. Now some other bible experts like ‘Jack Van Impe’ are saying that a biblical generation is 52 years. This is pretty amazing, because it falls in line with some other amazing date predictions. If the end time countdown began in 1967 when the Jews re-took control of Jersuale, and if you add 52 years to that date, that gives you the year 2019. Now if we subtract 7 years from 2019 (7 years being the time of the tribulation period), that gives us the date 2012. Strangely, both the Mayan and Aztec calendars end on the year 2012, predicting some major event that changes the whole earth in that year. Is this event the rapture, the return of Christ ? When it comes to exact dates nobody on the earth really knows when Jesus will return. Jesus himself says no man knows the day or the hour when he will return. In Mark 13:32 (KJV) “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” But Jesus doesn’t say we cannot know or figure out the year that he may come. I say, don’t wait for the year 2012, I believe the time may be much shorter, the best thing to do is to be ready, give your heart and life to Jesus today, except his free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ before it’s too late. You never know if you will have a tomorrow, a car wreck, heart attack, stroke, murder, or the return of the lord may happen this very hour, and then it’s too late. All you have to do is believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, and ask him to forgive you of your sins, say the ’sinners prayer below’ then repent, change your lifestyle and thinking by not living in sin, and if possible start going to a bible believing Church whenever you can, and be baptised if possible. The gift of eternal life is a free gift from the lord Jesus, all you have to do is want it, and ask for it. Here is a simple sinners prayer, it’s all you need to say, just believe it: “God I know and confess that I am a sinner in need of your forgiveness, I believe that your son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins. I now accept and receive Jesus’s pardon for my sins, I want Jesus into my heart and life as my personal saviour, forgive me lord and save me, Amen’. If you have just prayed that simple prayer and believed, you are now granted the gift of eternal life, Praise the Lord. As I finish this article, the year 2005 has now ended, and 2006 has just begun, I sit here wondering what terrible things will happen in the world, and in our own country this year, but as the Bible says. “Don’t let you heart be troubled, all these things (end time signs) must occur, but look up for your redemption draws near.” ———————————— If you want to learn a lot more about end time events that are happening every day, and Biblical things such as the Rapture, Armageddon, the Tribulation and more, then visit this website: ‘ Signs Of The End Times ‘, for daily End Times news articles, and lots of other great Christian reading. Applying Make Up

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Josh Riverside It is a dream of every woman to stand out in the crowd, flaunting that perfect look and stealing the show. A great make up can be the perfect way to do gain ample attention and project a flawless skin. The most crucial step to start with would be to wash the face and neck thoroughly so that the skin is cleansed of all the dirt and dust. A water-based moisturizer, applied after drying up the face, would then provide a perfect moisture balance required by the skin. A concealer, applied in dots all over the face and neck and gently rubbed in circular motion, can cover blemishes and spots. The application of the foundation would follow next, using fingertips or sponge, and needs to blend uniformly. It is essential that the color of the concealer is one shade lighter than the foundation. A compact or powder can be used to help the foundation last longer. The use of the right color is very important as they help in accentuating the features of the face and thus, require careful application. Individuals can highlight their cheekbones by using darker shades of blushers applied in outward direction from the cheek towards the earlobes, which will avoid concentration of colors in the middle of the cheek. While a copper shade is a good option for a dark complexion, pale pink or peach shades look nice on fair complexions. Eyes speak volumes when it comes to make up and thus, need to be enhanced with eyeliners that would help in blending the eye shadow with the lashes. Applying an eye shadow can be tricky and hence, should be carefully. Two coats of mascara provide a final touch to complete the eye make up. As for the lips, although not mandatory, the lip liner can be used to accentuate the color and shape of the lips. If used, the color of the lip liner and that of the lipstick should blend properly. One can use a brush that allows more coverage and control of the amount of color applied. A touch of gloss would finally give that shining, well-defined, and luscious look to the lips. Turning 16 and Getting a Car

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Hubert Crowell After reading this account, I am sure that most parents will have second thoughts about allowing a 16-year-old to have a car. I am not proud of some of the things I have done or the close calls I have had, but I did learn a lot from those experiences. I only had a real car for less than a year before I left home leaving the car behind. I don’t count that first junk car that I bought at the drive in theater and only drove twice while I was 15. Shortly after my 16th birthday dad took me up the car dealer and helped me buy a good running used 1950 Plymouth 4 door. He even let me charge the gas until I ran the bill up too high. I recall that I even had to drive myself the county seat to get a license and I was nervous that they might ask me how I got there. Having a car meant that I now became more of a leader than a follower, very few students in school had cars. You can do a lot of things with a car and get into a lot of trouble also. I would stay out late at night, drive up town and find anyone who wanted to play poker, drive out to some lonely back road and play on the back of the seats under the dome light for hours at a time. Some of my friends approached me about a prank they would like to play of some of the older students and because I owned a shotgun and a car, I became one of the main players in the plot. We started spreading the rumor about a woman whose husband worked the late shift and that she was entraining young men while he was at work. Out at the end of Leaper Lane in Providence, Kentucky where we lived, there was an old abandoned house. I would drive out just after dark and park around back, load up the shotgun and wait behind a tree. The others that were in on the prank would gather up some of the eager students in their car and bring them out. They would make us some excuse for parking on the road before getting to the house and have them walk the rest of the way. I would let them get almost to the front porch and then I would step out and put a couple of shotgun blasts up into the trees. We only used one car and would never let the victim drive their own car. It would usually take us several hours to find all the victims and calm them down. Of course they were then ready to pull the prank on the next group. After a couple of weeks we ran out of new blood and called it quits. Fortunately no one was hurt except for their pride. One Saturday I ran out of gas out on US 41 about 5 miles out of town. I walked home and borrowed the family Hudson, and picked up some gas. I now had a problem, I needed someone to drive my car back home so that I could return the family car. I drove up to the center of town, this consisted of one traffic light at the top of the hill in the center of Providence. There were a couple of pool halls down one street and the movie theater a half block up the street, a few stores and that was it. You could always find someone standing around in the center of town looking for something to do or someone to talk to. I found a student that was more a friend of my cousin than I and he was older so I knew that he must have a license. For some strange reason he seemed reluctant to help me out, but I insisted, so he jumped in. We drove out to the car and I put the gas in the tank, got it started and told him to just follow me back to the house. Every thing was going fine until we turned down this side street that had a ten-foot ditch on one side that sloped down to the water at about a 30-degree angle. I was watching him in my rear view mirror and could not believe my eyes. He was slowly getting closer and closer to the ditch and then just drove over the bank and slid down to the bottom side ways. He started to get out on the bottom side when I yelled that the car might turn over on him. I then find out that he did not have a drivers license and not only that I later found out that he had a mental problem that caused him to turn the car in the opposite direction that he wanted to go when he got excited. He had even rolled a pickup truck on a curve one time due his problem. I am sure that there is a name for this but I do not know what it is. I have never forgot this and I am very cautious about being on the side of the road. I think that this is why so many workers and police get hit when working along side the road. The police drove up to investigate what was going on, and I did not want to get my friend into trouble. I know that I talked my way out of it but I cannot remember now how I explained the fact that I was driving two cars at the same time. One thing that help me was that dad was well known in town and almost everyone at one time or another had worked for him in the coal mine or played football with him in school, he was the football star and school hero. I guess that is the good thing about growing up in a small town. Everyone knows who you are and a lot is over looked. Late one evening someone suggested that we drive down to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and see what we could find. We drove down to one of the side gates which was closed. We parked on the side of the road and placed the jack under the car so it would look like we had a flat. Then we started out across a field toward the military post. There was a huge sign warning of prison and fines for trespassing, but that did not even slow us down. We found a parking lot full of tanks and climbed into one and played with the controls for a while. My friend had an open knife in his pocket, why I will never know. As he was climbing out of the tank, he put his hand in his pocket and cut it bad. We had blood all over everything, he finely got the bleeding stopped and we left the tanks to check out the barracks. We tried several doors and they all were locked. All of a sudden we heard sirens all over the base and MP cars raced by as we hid. We decided it was time to get out of there, so we headed back to the car. The next day we hear that a plane had crashed at Ft Campbell. Someone must have been watching over us that night or we could have been in a lot of trouble. A mile out town just before the intersection of US 41 another friend lived who stayed in about as much trouble as I did. We had a fort built across the field behind his house. There was a dirt road that leads to the field and as it left the main road it had a dirt bank on each side close to the dirt road. I was spinning in the mud and had everyone jump out and push. Well the back doors on the Plymouth opened to the front of the car and one of the boys left the door open while they were pushing. I got some traction and took off, catching the open door in the bank and tearing it off. Now I had to drive around with a missing back door. And two odd color finders that I had replaced earlier from the junk yard. My car was beginning to look pretty sad. The skating rink was on the second floor of one of the buildings near the center of town and it also doubled as the meeting place for the VFW. They had some rifles used for parades and for some strange reason, they stored the rifles in a hole in the wall of the mens rest room. I was told about the rifles and wasted no time, I drove my car around to the back exit and we quickly moved the rifles to the car and out to our fort. The rifles were wrapped in grease and wax paper and there were about five or six of them. I took one home and cleaned it up and my friend was working on the rest at the fort. A few days later as I pulled up in his yard, the County Sheriff was parked in the yard. He open the trunk of his car and asked me if I knew anything about the rifles he had in there. I explained that I did and if he would follow me home I would give him the last one. Dad was home when we got there and they started talking, after a while I asked if it was all right if I went back up town and they said OK. Things were quite for a while and I was relieved, I did find out later that my friend had ordered ammunition for the rifles. I avoided him after that and later in the year he placed some dynamite in a sewer man hole and blew it up. He was up at the theater bragging about it and got into a lot of trouble. After that the police would stop me after school and question me about drugs and other things, I guess they thought that I knew what was going on around town. I had never heard about drugs and didn’t know there were so many problems in our small town. Dad warned me that I had better save up my money for cigarettes for when I went to prison. So I cut back on my wild activities after that. Winter came and driving became more fun, we would drive on the icy street and cut the wheels to see how many times we could spin around. I am amazed that I survived that winter.
