Career Education Options For Working Adults

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Max Stein Ask yourself this question: Do I like what I do for a living? If you answered no, what are you doing about it? Maybe you have a good job, but its not very rewarding to you personally. Maybe you have job with good pay, but bad hours or worse a job with good hours, but bad pay. Perhaps youve just done your job for too many years, or are excited to work in some of the new careers that just werent available when you finished school. Whatever the reason is for you wanting to switch careers, there are some practical considerations to take into account. How long will it take? How will I find the time to do it? How much will it cost? This article will answer these questions and point you towards a more fulfilling career. How long will it take to train for a new career? The answer to this depends on what you want to train for. But, the majority of well paying careers that are currently seeking workers, take two years or less to train for. For example, becoming a machinist takes about 10 months. Training to become an X-ray technician can be done in a year. There are other training options that can get you a new job in only six months! Your experience can also count. For example, if you work with computers on your job now, you wont have to take word processing and spreadsheet classes if you want to be a medical coder. If you tinker with computers in your spare time while youre working a retail management position, youll be ahead of the class when you train to become a help desk technician. Also, if you like working on projects around your house more than your job in an office, youll be more likely to obtain employment as an HVAC tech or electrician. How will I find the time to go to school? If you decide you want to train for a new career, there are many educational options. Traditional universities and colleges are one option, but tend not to offer a lot of flexibility in their class times. Community colleges are a better option since they have flexible classes, but due to limited resources, some of the most in demand training programs like nursing and dental hygiene have several year waiting lists in many markets across the U.S. The educational option many working adults choose is a career college. Career colleges offer flexible scheduling and have the proper resources to greatly reduce waiting lists, if they have any at all. The biggest drawback is they cost more to attend. Consider a career college to be like a private community college. However, the flexible scheduling and the shorter time to graduation compensate for the higher initial cost of a career college. How much will career training cost? This is probably the most difficult question. If youre like most working adults, you dont have an eight month emergency reserve fund stashed away but, you do have credit card bills, a car payment, possibly children and that nagging monthly rent/mortgage payment. Chances are youre not in a position to quit your existing job. Due to flexible class schedules youll still be able to work and keep that income. Student loans or grants are a possibility to pay for tuition. Also, check if your company has a tuition reimbursement plan. Even though youre thinking about leaving your job, your company may have a need for the career youre interested in training in. The bottom line is if you dont feel satisfied with your current job, you dont have to stay with it for the rest of your working years. There are a number of great careers available that pay well and require less than two years of training time. Check out your career options here. Dog Lovers and Dating

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Tonja Weimer Are you a dog lover? Have you met someone who does not have a dog? Are you wondering if your new love interest will like your whole family? Do you worry about whether your heart throb will embrace your furry relatives? Dog lovers are everywhere. It is estimated that over 40 million adult singles in the U.S. own a dog. But that leaves over 60 million single adults who do not own a dog, and if you are dating one of them, how will you handle introducing him or her to your pet? Dating with dogs can be worked out. If some of your family members are wonderful, cuddly, hairy creatures, you can introduce your puppy love to your human love without potential problems if your dog is well mannered. People who don’t have a pet usually do not appreciate dogs that jump on them, lick them, growl at them, or bark incessantly. If your dog does these things, consider taking a dog obedience class together. I have a dog lover friend with an adorable teacup poodle. His size and his expression make him so cute, he has escaped learning all the discipline he needs. In spite of his willful ways, she takes him everywhere she goes, including her office. Problem is, he climbs on her clients, barks if they don’t pay attention to him, and chews on their shoes and their pant legs. Some people don’t think that’s cute. Here are some dog lover dates that can promote a friendship between your new squeeze and your dog: *Walk the dog together. An enjoyable date is to take the dog for a walk. A park just for dogs is especially fun, but anywhere will do. This gives everyone exercise as well as calming your dog. Let your date hold the leash (unless you have a difficult dog to walk) so your pet can build a bond. This type of date has been known to promote great conversations. *Research information about dogs. If the non-furry object of your affection shows some interest in knowing more about dogs, check out some dog web sites. You can read up on the different characteristics and temperaments of each breed. These sites can also teach your date about the care and feeding of dogs so that when your dog acts in certain ways it will not be a mystery…or, an annoyance. *Visit animal shelters. Whether your date is a dog lover or not, everyone needs to visit an animal shelter at least once in his or her life. It is not only educational, it broadens one’s perspective on being responsible with pets. And who knows what can happen? You and your date may find your calling in volunteer services there. Dogs in shelters need to be bathed, petted, talked to, and fed. There aren’t enough personnel to get all these jobs done. Dogs that are bathed have a much better chance of being adopted. *Visit an obedience class together. Pet supply stores, like Pet Smart, often have obedience classes going on in the middle of the store. Call them, or if you don’t have a Pet Smart, call a pet store, or your local vet to find out where you can attend one. The teacup poodle that belongs to my friend no longer climbs on people or bites their ankles. She took him to obedience school. Smart little fellow that he is, he graduated valedictorian of his class. Think about the above if you want your new romantic interest to fall in lasting puppy love with you and your dog. Cheap International Calling Cards

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Romando]Richard Romando You can make your calls as cheap as possible with international calling cards. But if you want them still cheaper, then you should keep in mind that the cheapest is not always the best. There are very cheap calling cards available, but before you buy them, it is mandatory to check if they have any conditions that are not blatantly expressed. No plan will be offered to you without some benefit, if not profit to the company. You can find some companies with comparatively cheaper rates, but keep in mind that calling rates differ from country to country, and so you should find the best deal for yourself. Tel3 is a pioneer in long-distance phone service that offers cheaper call rates than many major telecom companies. This company claims to have the lowest international rates available and provides free minutes on sign-up. The international plan for this company comes with free minutes on domestic calls, as well as a monthly fee of only $1.95. All this can be done online, by filling out a form and getting your PIN by email. An automatic recharge of $25 will be done every month if your balance goes below $3. iDPhonecard can be accessed in 50 countries for very cheap rates, compared to normal international calling rates. The company specifically mentions the lack of any hidden fees in their cards. Fully refundable and non-rechargeable, the rates depend on the country you are calling, but you get roughly 208 minutes for 10 dollars. ZapTel Companys website also claims to give you the cheapest international calling rates. The website www.zaptel.com sells cards like Oceans, True North, Wireless World, Flying Colors, etc., apart from ZapTels own Call the World and International Students Choice international calling cards. The denominations start from $10 and go up to $50 on some cards. Exotic Flower Arrangements

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Ken Marlborough Beautiful and colorful exotic plants add a special touch to your flower arrangements at home, garden, wedding, or banquet. If you want to add a splash of color to your flower arrangements, make use of the wild and exotic flowers such as heliconia, lotuses, birds of paradise, orchids, ginger, and palm. In modern gardens often populated by roses and zinnias, wildflowers can be considered exotic as well because they grow wild in wide, open spaces. These flowers may look simple but they add a graceful flair to flower arrangements. Wildflowers are manageable to plant and they also possess a resistance to diseases, pests, and harsh climates, as well. They can survive in different soil types such as clay, sandy, nutrient poor soil, and practically even at no soil at all. Since wildflowers are not common to most people, such flower arrangements are unique and may come off as unusual. The best way to acquire the beauty of the wildflowers is to create a garden of wildflowers. The basic way to grow a wildflower garden is to sow seeds by scattering them on a clear and well-prepared ground. There should be no competition with other grasses and weeds so that they can grow fully. To prepare the garden, tap of the seeds, water the growing plants, and pull out weeds. Growing wildflowers from seeds is a more practical and economical way of acquiring them than buying matured ones. However, one disadvantage of such procedure is the long time requirement of germination and maturation. With wildflowers at hand, you can make exotic flower arrangements anytime you want. You do not need to order from your florist or online flower shops. Wildflowers do not need complicated arrangements to set them off. You can get a handful of wildflowers from your garden and put them inside an empty milk bottle. If you want to make them into a bouquet, you can simply get another handful and tie a colorful string around the stems. Flower Arrangements provides detailed information on Birthday Flower Arrangements, Christmas Flower Arrangements, Dried Flower Arrangements, Flower Arrangements and more. Why do Muslims and Islam Honor Jesus and Mary?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Waseem R Many do not know that Muslims honor Jesus and Mary as part of their religious beliefs. The following highlights some of the facts regarding Muslims beliefs about Jesus and Mary. * Muslims believe in Jesus as a prophet. They believe that God (Allah) sent many prophets to mankind and Jesus was one of them * As the Muslim religions foundation is to believe in one God and not to associate anyone with God and His powers and attributes, Jesus was only a human being that was raised by God and will return him to this earth in this life. Jesus will then die as a regular human being. * Muslims believe that Bible was revealed on Prophet Jesus. However, with time, as that book was changed, God (Allah) revealed His last book, the Quran on the last prophet, Prophet Muhammad. * Quran was revealed over a period of 23 years * Muslims believe in Mary as the Virgin mother of Prophet Jesus * There is an entire chapter in the Quran that explains in detail the birth of Jesus, his family, etc. The chapter is called Chapter of Mary * Muslims believe that Jesus although was put on the cross was never crucified. Instead, he was raised to the heavens by God (Allah) and another person instead was crucified in his place. These teachings and the fully story are narrated in the Quran. * Muslims also believe that Jesus will come back to earth, unit the Christians and the Muslims and will kill the anti-Christ. * The Quran teaches Muslims that Jesus though was a normal human being but had special powers from God (Allah) including raising the dead and curing diseases. What is Mobile Storage

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Lee Dobbins Mobile Storage is a new and innovative way instead of using traditional self storage. What happens is a mobile storage company (just do a search of the internet by keying in mobile storage company) and they will deliver a storage container directly to your location. Once the container has been delivered you then load it up and lock the container once completely loaded. You then contact the company who delivered the container in the first place and they will arrange to have it collected and delivered to their secure, climate controlled warehouse for safekeeping. However, if you need to have access to the container at any time then all you need do is visit the warehouse or arrange for the container to be delivered back to your location. Many people who use self storage want the convenience and accessibility as well as a reasonable price for using the facilities. With this type of storage no longer does the customer have to rent a truck, pack it and drive it across town to a self storage facility and then have to unload the truck before returning it to the rental company. All a customer needs to do using mobile storage is make a call to the company they want to use and arrange for one of their containers to be delivered directly to their location. This type of mobile storage seems to becoming more popular with people who are looking for ways to store items that they no longer want at home and thus make more space. We live in a world today where more and more people like to live more ordered and less cluttered lives and using a mobile storage container can help us achieve this. Although mobile storage containers come in a variety of sizes the most common one that seems to be used by the mobile storage industry is 5 ft x 8ft x 7ft model which has a door at the front. This seems the ideal size container as it gives people enough space to store a couch inside if they wish and they can be stacked 4 high in the warehouse. A container this size is big enough to hold the contents of 1 room of furniture of 50 boxes of files. The cost of these containers depends on where you are located and the cost of a mobile storage container can range from between $50 to $85 per month to rent. Although these prices may seem a bit excessive many people opt for this type of storage as one of it biggest benefits is not having to load and unload everything as well as not having to pay truck rental charges as well. So when you are thinking about having a clear out of your home and want to keep items but dont want to take up essential space in your house then think about giving mobile storage a go. Massachusetts DUI Defense

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Eddie Tobey Getting arrested for DUI, being taken to jail, getting fingerprinted and photographed can be a humiliating process that can leave the offender confused, angry and fearful. A DUI charge can have serious repercussions. A conviction could result in the offender losing his or her license, being fined, a possible jail sentence, loss of insurance or even getting cut off by the insurance company and having problems when applying for a job. According to Massachusetts law, there are at least 20 different challenges that can be made to DUI charges. This provides the offender with many different options to help get a reduction in sentences. DUI attorneys can talk to the District Attorney about agreeing to a plea for the minimum penalty allowed under Massachusetts law or they can help fight the case. The fact that all the District Attorney has to prove is that the offender was too drunk to drive or that the blood alcohol ratio exceeded permissible limits is all the more reason to hire a reputed DUI attorney. The attorney can challenge the case and force to District Attorney to prove that the arresting officer made the arrest properly, that the offender was properly advised of his or her rights, that the equipment used was working properly, and even that the person operating the equipment was certified to operate it. All these facts can strengthen ones case and go a long way in helping the defendant regain his or her freedom and keep the license. The defense can also consist of having the District Attorney provide the defendants attorney with the names and addresses of all the people he plans to use as witnesses along with their recorded testimony. This will help the defendants lawyer prepare proper questions. Furthermore, the District Attorney can be forced to provide any information or material that he has which shows that the defendant may not be guilty as charged or which may help the defendant receive a lighter sentence. Lose Weight - Put An End to Late Night Eating

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By Bill Vlass When I first began losing weight (110lbs to be exact!) one thing that I did was to make sure that I did not eat past 7 o clock pm. It didn’t matter to me how hungry I was I would not eat after that time each night. Today I’m not nearly as strict on myself as I was when I weighed a whopping 287lbs. Here are some ideas however when it’s late and you just have to have something to eat or if you get an occasional sweet tooth. 1. Have a coke I know they are filled with sugar and empty calories but they have 0 fat grams. Eating too much fat can often lead to weight gain and you can bet that the worst time to eat a high fat meal is a few hours before you go to bed. Have a coke instead it may be just what you need to curb your appetite. 2. Have a piece of fruit Ahhh. If there are any doctors reading this I can hear them saying “Now that’s better!” Fruit is good and good for you. You can choose whatever type of fruit you like, watermelon, mangos, a bannana, an orange, an apple, etc. 3. Have a big glass of water flavored with lemon juice Often when you feel hungry it’s not that you are hungry as much as you are thirsty so instead of reaching for that leftover bowl of spaghetti sitting in the fridge drink some water instead. 4. Have a fat free piece of candy A small piece of candy won’t hurt you weight-wise before bed time and it may be very beneficial if it keeps you from binging before you hit the sack. 5. Think about the next day Oftentimes we make decisions without prior thought to their ramifacations. Think about what it will be like to wake up in the morning, weighing a little less and also about the nice breakfast you are going to have upon rising. Sometimes this is enough to cause you to forgo the late night meal and wait until morning when you can enjoy your breakfast knowing that you are still right on track. These are just a few things you can do to help alleviate the urge for late night eating. Late night eating will pack on the pounds quicker than just about anything so avoid it as much as possible. Be sure to remember that before implementing any of these dieting strategies to check with your family physician first. For example: If you are on a special diet that restricts you from having sugar then don’t start eating sugary foods just because you read it here. Always and I do mean always follow your doctors health advice. Bill Vlass is not a doctor and does not even claim to be a weight loss expert. Bill at one point however lost 110lbs and he did it by using the methods he writes about in his articles. You can visit Bills website at http://www.instantehealthinfo.com Bill always encourages anyone beginning any diet or excercise program to check with their local physician first. Guarantees: Why You Should Offer Them

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Alicia Forest There are many questions that often come up for new small business owners around offering guarantees - what kind, how long, am I risking too much by doing so, and even if they should offer them at all. In my business, I offer a guarantee on everything I sell. The guarantees for my products are slightly different than the guarantees I give for my 1:1 coaching and consulting services, but the one thing they have in common is this: Guarantees remove the risk from your buyer. And yes, that means that then the “risk” is on your shoulders, but that’s exactly where it should be. After all, if you’re providing something of value that you believe in, standing behind it should be very easy to do. Here are some other thoughts about offering guarantees for your products/services, based on my experience and knowledge: 1. Guarantees make it easier for your prospect to buy… If you offer a 100% money-back, no-questions-asked guarantee, you’ve answered your potential buyer’s # 1 objection - “But what if it doesn’t work for me?” By assuring them that, if your product or service doesn’t do what you say it will for your buyer, you’ll give them their money back without demanding a reason, you’re assured more sales. 2. Guarantees are proven to make more sales… You may think that by offering a guarantee people are going to take advantage of it unscrupulously, especially if you’re selling a digital product. After all, you can’t really take an ebook back once someone has downloaded it to their computer (and yes, I know there is software available that turns “off” a returned copy, although I don’t recommend you use it). But so few people will really do that that it’s not worth not offering a guarantee. There will always be a few turkeys who will take advantage, but I suggest you leave it up to the Universe or Karma or whatever to take care of them. 3. Offer a strong guarantee… Meaning, 100% money-back, no-questions-asked, one-year guarantee. Studies agree that the longer the guarantee, the less returns you’ll get. Why? Because people are busy, and they will appreciate a longer time to try something out before they have to return it. And frankly, unless they are furious about a purchase, it’s unlikely they will ask for their money back, especially it’s been awhile since they bought it. 4. Guarantees for services… If you’re a service provider, like a coach or consultant, it may be a bit more difficult to put a guarantee on your results because usually you need your client’s active participation to achieve any results. And since there is really no way that you can make them engage, it wouldn’t be wise to place all the responsibility for results on you. As part of your contract with your client, you might want to include a detailed list of what it is that you will be providing as well as what the expectations are of the client, and that any requests for refunds will be based on what expectations were met on both sides of the agreement and to what degree. This can be very tricky, though, so to paraphrase a business coach I worked with a few years ago, I’d suggest this option instead: “Here’s your money, off you go…” 5. Guarantees are promises… If you offer something of value and you believe in it, then it’s easy for you to make promises about what it can do. It should be equally as easy, then, to offer an iron-clad guarantee to back up those promises. Offering a strong guarantee will put your potential buyer at ease and make more sales for you. Daily Meditation Hebrews 11:13-16

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Dan Sharp All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them. Strangers and sojourners… it is interesting to be truly living that now. What do I notice? Not everyone is pleased to have strangers in their midst. Most are gracious and welcoming, but others are clearly disdainful from the onset. So you wonder if those who are welcoming are so out of their gracious customs toward people in general… or are they truly pleased to welcome you? Our cultural differences can cause offense as well… we do not know the subtleties which offend or put people at ease. We are clearly separate and apart in our manners and customs, and even trying to adopt the new mannerisms seems like an ill-fitted suit. But most of all… we cannot hide in the masses here. This is the best lesson of all. We stand out as different before we even utter a word. So should we be as disciples of Christ… unable to blend into the surroundings of this world. Is the first thing someone asks you, What are you doing here, or why are you here? A relevant question we should be asked every day as a son of God. The truth is, the more we stand out, the easier it is to stand for God. There is no shrinking into the background and shadows, you have to answer for yourself and your purpose here. Thank you Heavenly Father for this tremendous opportunity… we are truly blessed.
